MessageBrowns Do OK On Draft DayApr 28, '08 10:01 PM
by Jim for everyone

Well despite having to trade to move up in the draft order partly because of trading draft positions last year to acquire QB Brady Quinn, the Browns did well with their initial five picks. Under the circumstances I thought the Browns had a surprisingly good draft.

Their top pick came in round four when they chose LB Beau Bell of UNLV. Bell was the 104th overall pick of the draft. He's been well scouted by the Browns and will be a welcome addition to the defense. Still in the fourth round the Browns grabbed tight end Marvin Rucker of Missouri. Current Browns starting tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. has suffered some major injuries in the past and there may also be some contract trouble looming in the future. Rucker is a good receiver and he will be a nice insurance policy for the Browns. Ahtyba Rubin was the Browns third choice in the sixth round. The nose guard from Iowa State is 6'3" - 320 pounds. He'll give the Browns depth on the defensive line and is considered a possible future starter. Also in the sixth round the Browns landed a possible steal by picking WR Paul Hubbard of Wisconsin. The Browns are very high on this young mans ability. Hubbard was the 191st pick in the 2008 draft. Their fifth pick should help stabilize the linebacker unit. Alex Hall of St.Augustine College was drafted in the seventh round and should add depth to the LB squad.

There are still a lot of tangibles in trying to project the Browns success in 2008. No this was not an earth shaking draft for the Browns but I felt they made very smart choices for the future. GO BROWNIES !
